System of Government
The Governance of Archios is far more varied and less feudalistic compared to its neighbors. Unlike the Kingdoms and Empire to their North, Archios governs itself on a series of checks and balances between official offices, members of a senate, and the Imperial Authority.
While the Imperial Authority -- consisting of the Emperor and his family -- hold the greatest and largest sum of power in the Empire, that does not make them absolute rulers. The senate and official offices maintain and regulate the laws which are executed based upon the Code of Kontos, a set of laws established by the First Emperor.

Archios is a nation built upon the pride and knowledge of their people. They hail from a long line of warriors, philosophers, and leaders. While this has changed form over the many years that the Empire has stood, it is still a people of great history and those who pride themselves upon it. While it is a shell of its former glory it is still an illustrious and beautiful nation.
Built on the idea to never make the same mistake twice.
History
To state the entirety of the history of Archios is near impossible. It is the longest lived nation that was made of Human hands. One would need volumes of novels to simply state its history before its decline.
Its start, however, was one of rebellion. The Elves, still reeling from their pyric victory of the Great Rift of the Dragons, turned their eyes on the blossoming tribes of the Humans who inhabited their peninsula. The Archesians deigned to fight for their right to live. Through the Zephirian, someone who was blessed with foresight, they were able to repel these attacks and assaults against their people. With their right to rule themselves, they expanded. They conquered and included surrounding Kingdoms and Tribes. Eventually, once they had expanded their borders to hold nearly the entire peninsula they established themselves as the United Republics of Archios. This Republic, however, did not last long. Bureaucracy and corruption spread through the nation like wildfire. The flames were only fanned by external threats.
To save the Republic, a Dictator was elected - One who rooted out the corruption and fought to protect its people. There are those that believed having a Dictator was a threat to the democracy they created. A role that was created to bring peace brought only more war and destruction. By the end of the bloody conflict those that sided with the Dictator stood victorious. Though now the Dictator was dead, and there was no more council to elect another. In favor of a Dictator however, they instead chose an Emperor.
Thusly the Empire of Archios was made. Even with an Emperor as its ruler, it was not as simple as dynastic succession - The next Emperor was chosen by the previous. The Councils and Senate were reestablished, giving the people even more voice in the way the Empire was run; Even if the Emperor had the final say. They conquered much of the mainline of Alfyr below the Ardhoroin Mountains and for many hundreds of years were the strongest and most powerful nation in the lands.
But like all great things, they must come to an end. Corruption and bureaucracy seeped back into the very essence of the Empire. What had once made it a nation and governance of the people turned to one of greed and deceit. It is only then that those they had once conquered rose up once more to place the final nail within the coffin that was the Great Archesian Empire.
